Circus West Kids – “Around The World In 80 Days”

I was delighted to have been contacted by Jay Nunn’s, a member of the Circus West crew. He had a run of shows coming up soon and needed professional makeup for the cast. The show was entitled, “Around The World in 80 Days” and was to be performed by the Circus West Kids. He requested airbrushed makeup as from his past experience, this has been the most efficient method of application. Efficiency was vital considering we had over 20 faces to make up! I knew I would need help!

Q & A (1)

Questions and Answers (1)

It is quite often that I will get random emails from people. Some who I know. Some who I don’t. Often on networking sites such as facebook. People asking for advise. Tips. I am always more than happy to respond in as much detail as I can do. I figured why not start writing about this and share the advise and tips with the world instead of just one person.

Harmony & Nicky’s Engagement Photo Shoot

Harmony & Nicky’s Engagement Photo Shoot

Harmony Cheung had contacted me a while back enquiring about hair and makeup services for her upcoming wedding. We began exchanging emails dicussing her booking. As one of my previous blogs speak about, I suggest to my brides that they make the most of the hair and makeup applied on the consultation. I have noticed that engagement or boudoir photo shoots are often a part of many photographers wedding packages these days so I suggest holding the consultation a few hours before this photo shoot is due. This way you can see how the makeup “photographs”.

This was probably my most challenging bridal booking so far in my career as a makeup and hair artist. The bride and her maids were fantastic! Friendly and easy to please. The perfect clients in my books! We had done the consultation months ago and knew exactly how things were going to pan out. The challenging part was the call-time. 2am! In Maple Ridge! I live in Vancouver. Meaning I had to leave my home at 1am to get there on time. Meaning I had to get up at midnight in order to be dressed and readily prepared by 1am for my pick-up…
Eesh!

I always advise my brides to make the most out of their consultations. It seems to be such a waste just to go home, take it off and go to bed. I suggest having your consultation the morning of your engagement photo shoot, you bachelorette/stagette/hen party, a birthday or any other special occassion.

Carny Love Clothing

I got hooked up with a fantastic job as the makeup and hair artist to work on set of a promotional photo shoot for a local designer, Carny Love Clothing by Christie Clayton. I am sure you will all recognise Christie from Project Runway Canada. I know since doing the shoot I have noticed her in a few episodes and got a little excited that I had worked with her. She is such a down to earth, relaxed client to work for. She knew exactly what she wanted for the hair and makeup designs and communicated them to me very well.

I met Pat Dollard back in 2009 when I was contacted by her asking if I would come and do her makeup for a video shoot she had scheduled with Mill Creek Pictures. She had actually got my information from Shigeo Tamagi, the founder of Mill Creek Pictures.

Key Makeup & Hair Artist for Save The Children PSA

FayeSmith_Action
One of my daily internet checks includes a browse through the makeup job and gig postings on craigslist. Granted most of the time you sent out emails responding to the adverts on there and noone ever responds back. However, on this occassion I got a response giving me the option to be the key makeup and hair artist or…the assistant… Key please! I will never turn that down! I love the head artist role.
