When my good friend and colleague, Joanna Keller, asked me to host a beauty event with her, I was excited by the idea. I had attended many industry events before but had never thrown one of my own. This sounded be fun!
Joanna had recently joined with Arbonne, an online beauty brand originating from Switzerland. She would be retailing her favourite selection of Arbonne cosmetics in her Beautique located in Gastown, Vancouver.
Arbonne encourages it’s team to be inventive with their retailing. I am sure more than less of you will have experienced a private Arbonne party where you get to play fun games, win Arbonne prizes and soak your feet in a warm and relaxing foot bath all at the same time. I know I have been to a few ;-P
Joanna and I met for lunch to discuss our event. I have access to an amazing room on the ground floor of my apartment building so I suggested we do something big and make the most out of the space available to us. We needed sponsors for an event like this! We needed food and booze and bribes to bring people in.
We bought cheese and crackers, multiple bottles of champagne, cute paper napkins and paper plates, and had our friend Zoe do some baking for us. A mini buffet you could call it. A mini buffet with alcohol (important detail) ;-P
A facebook invite was of course our advertising tool as well as word of mouth. Joanna’s man, Joel Dufresne, talented photographer and graphic designer, even went out of his way to make us some cool posters. I posted some around my apartment building to let everyone know they were invited and I believe a few fresh faces showed up =]
I got in touch with one of my favourite event photographers, Kuna Lu, and asked if he would be interested in being the photographer at our event. We could use these images for social media and blog posts to show off our success post event.
As Arbonne is all about cosmetics, skincare and body care, this would certainly be an event catered more toward women. Although Arbonne does carry men’s skin and body care as well!
Being a makeup artist, I of course thought it would be a great idea to offer makeovers using Arbonne Cosmetics. This way, women could feel and see the products first hand. I know for myself, I have to try before I buy. Its amazing how a cosmetic may work well for one person and not another.
Myself and Joanna spent our entire evening doing makeover after makeover and having Kuna snap up some great before and after shots for us. I love the moments he captured for us.
Every attendee was entered into a door prize. We had tons of amazing prizes up for grabs;
Faye Smith Makeup & Hair – Makeup Application
Joanna Keller Beautique – Lash Extensions
Laya Lale – Eminence Organics Facial
Joel Dufresne Photography – Print
Safe Smile Vancouver – Teeth Whitening
All in all the evening was so much fun and we had a great turn out. A big thank to everyone who came!
