Shop for the best make-up products and network with make-up industry pros at the International Make-Up Artist Trade Show Vancouver. This year’s show is slated for a new date – May 30-31 – and a new location, the Vancouver Convention Centre West.
Two of Hollywood’s top artists will be keynote speakers at IMATS: Besides being Johnny Depp’s personal make-up artist, Oscar and Emmy winner Joel Harlow has created iconic looks for the Pirates of the Caribbean films, Alice in Wonderland and the Star Trek reboot.
And besides being Harrison Ford’s personal make-up artist, Oscar and Emmy winner Bill Corso is known for his work on Foxcatcher, Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.
Fashion and beauty make-up maven Jon Hennessey will be the show’s beauty keynote speaker. Hennessy has done runway shows from New York to Milan to Paris. His celebrity clients have included Alicia Keys, Anna Paquin, Lily Allen, Mark Ruffalo and Kellan Lutz, and his editorial work has graced the pages Elle, Vogue, Details andGlamour. He’s the founder of artist agency Nobasura and a product development consultant with cosmetics company Inglot.
Along with Corso and Harlow, artists working internationally in film, fashion, TV and theater will teach classes, do make-up demos and share their secrets. Among the attractions are a panel discussion with the members of Local 891 and classes with make-up effects artists Thomas Surprenant and Rich Knight and body painter Dutch Bihary.
In a shopping mood? At IMATS, you’ll find professional-grade make-up and tools from exhibitors including Make Up For Ever, Ben Nye, Hakuhodo and more.
Make-up effects artists will show off their work from film and TV in the Make-up Museum. And international make-up students will compete in the Battle of the Brushes, the IMATS student make-up competition that predates Face Off. The beauty/fantasy category is themed Historical Beauty Trends; the character/prosthetic category is themed Age Make-up Challenge. Students will race against the clock to create winning looks.
IMATS Vancouver will be held 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 30; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 31 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West, Exhibit Hall B, 1055 Canada Place, Vancouver, British Columbia.
In addition to the Vancouver show, IMATS is held in Los Angeles, New York, London, Sydney and Toronto. All events are produced by Make-Up Artist magazine, a division of Key Publishing Group.
